Media Advisory: Preliminary ICC probe into the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories

Today’s announcement that the Office of the Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court (ICC) has opened a preliminary examination of the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT) could pave the way for thousands of victims of crimes under international law to gain access to justice.

For years, Amnesty International has been calling for ICC jurisdiction over the crimes committed in the Israel-OPT conflict. A preliminary examination could eventually lead to an ICC investigation into crimes committed by all sides in Israel and the OPT and break the culture of impunity that has perpetuated a cycle of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Spokespeople from Amnesty International’s Centre for International Justice in the Hague, Netherlands and the Middle East and North Africa Programme at the International Secretariat in London are available for interview to discuss this development.
