Oumar Sylla, pro-democracy activist and member of FNDC

Oumar Sylla (also known as Fonike Mengue) is a prominent member of the National Front for the Defence of the Constitution (FNDC), a coalition that was created following President Alpha Conde’s announcement that he would be running for a third term.

Fonike Mengue was arrested on 29 September 2020 while campaigning against President Conde’s third term run. He was sentenced to 11 months after spending 4 months in pre-trial detention. Foniké has been on a hunger strike since 25 December 2020 to demand a trial.
