The police are breaking records in Rio

The Olympic organisers are getting ready for this year’s Games in Rio. But the Games’ security plans risk plunging thousands of Rio’s most vulnerable into a summer of violence and fear.

It’s been 7 years since Rio was awarded the Games, promising a safe city for all. And yet, in those same 7 years, police have killed over 2,651 people in the city. The majority: young black men. Amidst the Olympic glitter and fanfare, will anyone remember them?
