Demand justice for victims of the conflict in Syria and their families

On April 4th, a chemical attack targeted the city of Khan Sheikhoun in Idlib, killing more than 70 and injuring hundreds.

Although Russian and Syrian authorities say they are not responsible, an investigation must take place to identify perpetrators and bring them to justice. Since 2013, several chemical attacks against civilians have been carried out by government forces and armed groups - yet nobody has been brought to justice. They are getting away with it, without punishment.

The conflict in Syria has caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands and led millions of people – more than half the population - to flee their homes, either abroad or within Syria.

Today, the people responsible for these atrocities remain out of the reach of justice, and civilians continue to suffer every day.

It’s time to deliver justice and reparation for victims and their families. It’s time to ensure that war crimes and crimes against humanity do not go unpunished.

Demand the UN immediately implements their new mechanism to assist investigations into war crimes and pushes for the prosecution of perpetrators, so that those who are suspected of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity are brought to justice in the future.

Without justice and accountability, these attacks risk being repeated.

Support justice for Syria by signing up your name on this petition which will be handed to the UN Secretary-General Mr. António Guterres.

Mr. Secretary General of the United Nations,

I pledge my support for justice in Syria, and support the effective and speedy establishment of the international, impartial and independent Mechanism to assist in the investigation and prosecution of those responsible for the most serious crimes under international law committed in Syria since March 2011, as stipulated in resolution 71/248 passed by the UN General Assembly on 21 December 2016.

Please take the necessary steps to ensure that the Mechanism achieves its overall objective.
