Argentina is close to decriminalising abortion – add your voice now

Hundreds of thousands of Argentinians have taken to the streets to support a bill that would guarantee access to safe and legal abortion.

Right now, in Argentina, as well as in many countries around the world, abortion is criminalised except in very limited circumstances.  People who get pregnant and cannot or do not want to continue with the pregnancy are often forced to make an impossible choice: put their lives at risk or go to jail. As a result, every year, half a million pregnant people risk their lives by carrying out abortions without the right professional medical care and since 1983, over 3,000 people have died from unsafe abortions.

But on June 14, 2018, pressure from the public prevailed and the Chamber of Deputies in Argentina took a historic step by voting in favour of decriminalising abortion. Soon, activistswill return to the streets again, as the Senate makes the final decision on decriminalising abortion in Argentina. The lives of many women in Argentina hinge on this moment and now, the people of Argentina need your support to convince the Senate to stand on the right side of history.

Add your voice and sign the petition calling on Senators in Argentina to listen to their people and support access to safe abortion.

The bill is very close to having enough support in the Senate to be passed. We will deliver this petition before the Senate vote, and make sure our voices are heard when it counts.
