Tunisia: A widening circle of repression

This report details the widespread pattern of arrest, torture and imprisonment to silence and intimidate with impunity opposition political activists, human rights activists, trade unionists and government critics. There is also concern at the increasing practice of targeting the wives and relatives, including children, of prisoners and exiled opponents. They have often been detained, tortured and ill-treated, including sexual abuse, restricted in their movements and harassed. This report focuses on case details of some of those subject to human rights violations, and highlights new restrictions which further curtail the activities of human rights defenders in Tunisia. The report concludes with a series of recommendations to the Tunisian government.
