This submission was prepared for the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Syria in January-February 2027. In it, Amnesty International highlights key recommendations made to Syria in its previous review that remain pressing for the new Syrian authorities to address. These include the ratification of and accession to international instruments, institutional and legal reform, delivery of justice, truth and reparation, protection against gender-based violence, ending enforced disappearance, protection of freedom of expression and association, and abolishing the death penalty.
