Israel and the Occupied Territories: Amnesty International’s response to the comments of the Israeli Ministry of Justice on the Amnesty International Reports 1990 and 1991

Amnesty International has responded to the comments of the Israeli Ministry of Justice on the Amnesty International Report entries for Israel in 1990/91. The response explains AI’s methodology and how it ensures impartiality in its reporting of violations. Specific issues addressed include the prisoners of conscience Abie Nathan, Sami al-Kilani and Faisal al-Husseini; the killing of Palestinian civilians by Israeli forces, for example 14-year-old As’ad Hammuda shot in March 1989; the deaths of Mahmud al-Masri and Khaled Shaikh ‘Ali in Gaza Central Prison; misuse of CS tear- gas; the death of Fares Salha; prolonged solitary confinement of Mordechai Vanunu and conditions in Ketziot detention centre.
