The above-named, aged 25 years from Abu Dis near Jerusalem, was arrested on 13 August 1990 and issued with a six-month detention order on 23 August 1990. He is currently held in Ketziot detention centre. At the appeal hearing against the order, it was alleged that Khaled ‘Ayyad had organized a national parade in Abu Dis on Independence day and in January 1990, and participated in building road blocks. It was also alleged that he held a position of responsibility in the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine and had participated in attacking suspected collaborators. Amnesty International does not yet know if Khaled ‘Ayyad is a prisoner of conscience and fears that he may not have had an adequate opportunity to challenge his detention order.
