Israel and the Occupied Territories: Simone Ibrahim Jalil ‘ Awad – Administrative detention

The above-named, a 24-year-old human rights worker from Beit Sahur on the West Bank, was arrested on 30 October 1990 and, some days later, issued with a four-month administrative detention order. Simone ‘Awad has worked for the Palestine Human Rights Information Centre since 1988. This is his third period in detention. Simone ‘Awad has appealed against the order, but the appeal was rejected. Amnesty International is not yet able to determine whether Simone ‘Awad is a prisoner of conscience; the organization is also concerned that he may not be given an adequate opportunity to challenge his detention order.
