Israel and the Occupied Territories: Noam Cohen, Barak Adorian and Yaron Zellig: Selective objectors to military service

Staff Sergeant Noam Cohen, aged 31, Staff Sergeant Barak Adorian, a 23- year-old student and Yaron Zellig, a 34-year-old journalist, were all sentenced to 28 days’ imprisonment in early January 1992 for refusing to carry out their reserve duty in the Israel Defence Force (IDF). They refused to serve in the West Bank, apparently because of their opposition to current IDF practices in the Occupied Territories. At present they are believed to be held in Atlit military prison (no. 6). Amnesty International has adopted them as prisoners of conscience and is calling for their immediate release.
