Among the recommendations made in this report, Amnesty International calls on the Iraqi authorities to ensure that the new constitution and all legislation contain prohibitions on all forms of discrimination against women, and that effective measures to protect women from violence are introduced. AI calls on governments with troops serving in Iraq to improve safeguards for women in detention and to investigate promptly all allegations of violence against women, including sexual attacks and other torture or ill-treatment. The organization calls on armed groups to stop targeting civilians and to end immediately the harassment of women and women’s rights activists.
