The European Court of Human Rights application: 10 Human rights organisations v United Kingdom: Additional submissions on the facts and complaints

The Applicants are 10 non-governmental human rights organisations based both within and outside the United Kingdom – the American Civil Liberties Union, Amnesty International, Bytes for All, the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights, the Hungarian Civil Liberties Union, the Irish Council for Civil Liberties, the Legal Resources Centre, Liberty, Privacy International. Their complaints to ECHR are concerned with mass bulk interception, collection, inspection, distribution and retention of communications on a vast, unprecedented scale. The UK Government carries out such activity itself and also receives the product of such activity carried out by the US Government. The Applicants complain of violations of their rights both in relation to the content of their communications and the associated metadata. UPDATE: After this application had been submitted and following the third and final judgement by the UK’s Investigatory Powers Tribunal in June 2015, the Applicants made supplementary submissions to the European Court of Human Rights in July 2015: https://www.amnesty.org/en/documents/ior60/3222/2015/en/
