COP30 Climate change conference in Brazil: Essential need-to-knows for human rights

COP30, the next United Nations annual climate conference, will take place in Belém, Brazil between 10 and 21 November 2025. It will bring together 198 states and other parties (for example, the European Union) to address the global threat posed by climate change. A preparatory meeting will be held in Bonn, Germany, from 16 to 26 June 2025, where negotiations will begin on commitments to be adopted at COP30.

In the context of the upcoming meeting in Bonn, this document provides an overview of Amnesty International’s analysis of key human rights and climate justice issues, particularly in regard to the protection of civic space and environmental human rights defenders, new, adequate, predictable and additional climate finance and the need for a just and equitable phase out of fossil fuels.
