Amnesty International welcomes the opportunity to contribute to the call for input by the Special Rapporteur on Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment on global trends and developments relating to torture and other cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment. This submission includes a high-level thematic analysis of trends in the policing of assemblies, with particular reference to the use of certain less lethal weapons. While this submission does not provide an exhaustive country-by-country analysis, it highlights key global patterns and concerns in the policing of assemblies and the use of law enforcement equipment.
