Oral statement at the UN Human Rights Council on Cambodia and Libya (Item 10 General Debate, 37th regular session)

In this oral statement, delivered at the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) on 22 March 2018, Amnesty international expresses disappointment that the HRC’s draft resolution on Libya falls well short of the response needed, because it fails to establish a dedicated international investigative mechanism to combat the impunity prevailing in Libya. Amnesty also echoes concerns raised by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) about the on-going crackdown on civil society, peaceful political opponents and independent media in Cambodia, and calls on the HRC to consider further action in the absence of meaningful steps being taken urgently by the Government.
