Amnesty International welcomes the report of the Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights relating to drug control (A/HRC/54/53), which provides further account of the widespread human rights violations facilitated by punitive drug policies, and its recommendations to transform ineffective and ill-conceived approaches to drugs. It urges States to use this report’s recommendations as a roadmap to adopt new models that put the protection of people’s health and rights at the centre and to ensure that human rights are at the centre of international drug policies.
