COP30: Human rights deprioritized but a win on just transition

This document provides a brief analysis of COP30 outcomes with respect to a just and equitable fossil fuel phase out through a human rights compliant transition in all sectors to a defossilized economy; the urgency of scaled up needs-based non-debt creating climate finance in particular for adaptation as well as a fit-for-purpose and adequately resourced Fund for responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD); and inclusive participation and the protection of environmental human rights defenders (EHRDs) and civic space, including the rights to freedom of expression and to peaceful assembly, both within and outside the UNFCCC. It makes recommendations to states for actions that would contribute to the achievement of climate justice.
