Tajikistan: Failure to respect and protect fundamental human rights: Amnesty International submission for the UN Universal Periodic Review, 39th session of the UPR Working Group, 1-12 November 2021
In this submission, Amnesty International evaluates the implementation of recommendations made previously to Tajikistan, including in relation to: ratification of the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture and setting up a National Preventive Mechanism, ratification of the Second Optional Protocol to the ICCPR and abolishing of the death penalty. The organisation addresses: measures taken to strengthen the prevention of torture and other ill-treatment and to improve access to justice for survivors of domestic and gender-based violence; the adaptation of a programme of judicial and legal reforms and a new strategy to reform the criminal justice system.
