Moldova: Justice not attained, future not ensured: Reflection on the tenth anniversary of the April 2009 events in Moldova
In 2019, Moldova marks 10 years since the tragic events of 7 April 2009. On that day, hundreds of people were subjected to arrest and beating by police in the capital Chisinau, and one protester died from the injuries he received. The most fitting way for the country to mark this anniversary is to reflect on the legacy of these events. It is time to reflect on the steps taken to provide justice, truth and reparation for the victims and take stock of the changes put in place since to address past crimes and prevent their repetition.
