Russian Federation: Appeal to the Russian authorities to conduct investigation into excessive use of force by security forces during peaceful protests of 27 July and 3 August 2019

On 27 July and 3 August, during the brutal dispersal of overwhelmingly peaceful protests against the refusal to register opposition candidates in the Moscow City Parliament over 2,000 people were detained and dozens were injured by police personnel resorting to disproportionate and excessive use of force. Amnesty International and representatives of dozens of Russian human rights NGO’s call on Russian authorities to launch an investigation into the conduct of law enforcement personnel during the protests and bring human rights violators to criminal and disciplinary liability for their actions.
