Russian Federation: Kazbek Alexandrovich Kokayev

Kazbek Kokayev was sentenced to death in 1990 for an armed attack on a militia base in Kursk in 1979, during which three militia men were killed. His appeal was rejected by June 1991 and he lodged a petition for clemency with President Gorbachev. The petition is now with President Yeltsin of the Russian Federation. AI is concerned that he may face imminent execution. He is known to have been in solitary confinement in a condemned cell for more than two and a half years.
