Turkey: Imprisonment of Dogu Perincek

The above-named was arrested on 7 August 1990 when he was about to attend a trial in Diyarbakir State Security Court. He is charged with “disseminating separatist propaganda” during speeches made earlier this year. Most of the speeches referred to the Kurdish question, but there appears to be no evidence that he advocated violence. Dogu Perincek has been publishing director of the magazine 2000e Dogru (Towards 2000) since it started publication in 1987. He has already spent two periods in prison in connection with his leadership of the Turkish Workers and Peasants Party.
