Turkey: fear of torture: Hatice Toraman, Hasan Polat and fourteen other people (names not known to Amnesty International)

The above-named were arrested in Istanbul on 28 October 1992. They were among relatives and friends of Huseyin Toraman who had gathered in the Kocamustafapasa quarter of Istanbul on the anniversary of his “disappearance”. The gathering was reportedly observed by plainclothes police, who later attacked, beat and detained 16 of those present, including Huseyin Toraman’s mother, Hatice. The detainees were transferred to the Anti-Terror Branch of Istanbul Police Headquarters on 29 October, where AI fears that they may be interrogated under torture.
