Medical letter writing action: Turkey: Investigation of torture complaint: Ihsan Kurt

Ihsan Kurt, a journalist with the newspaper Ozgur Gundem (Free Agenda), was arrested in Adana, southeast Turkey, on 12 October 1992 while taking photographs at the funeral of a PKK guerrilla Ramazan Selgat. More than 70 others were also detained and brought to Adana Police Headquarters. Ihsan Kurt was held for a week without charge and has made an official complaint of torture in incommunicado detention. He was examined after release at the Forensic Medicine Institute. Ihsan Kurt was previously arrested for two days at the end of August 1992, when the police allegedly tried to persuade him to become a police informer.
