Spain: Current human rights concerns and a setback in the struggle against impunity: Amnesty International submission to the UN Universal Periodic Review, January 2015

In this report, Amnesty International evaluates the implementation of recommendations Spain accepted in its previous UPR review. The organization raises concerns about the lack of codification in Spanish law of several crimes under international law, the adoption of security measures, restrictions to the rights to freedom of expression and assembly, universal jurisdiction in Spain and a recently-proposed abortion bill. The organization is also concerned about gender-based violence, violations of the rights of migrants, refugees and asylum seekers as well as the persistent impunity with regard to crimes committed during the Civil War.
