Poland: Third-Party Intervention to the European Court of Human Rights in the Case of Jan Grzęda

Amnesty International and the International Commission of Jurists intervened at the European Court of Human Rights in the case Judge Jan Grzęda. He was a member of the council of judiciary in Poland whose mandate was terminated early by legislative changes that undermined the independence of the judiciary in Poland. Arbitrary removal of judges who are members of judicial councils from their posts, both breaches individual rights and undermines the ability of judicial councils to safeguard the independence of the judiciary.
