Cyprus: Further information on imprisonment of conscientious objector: Antonis Andreas Kalogirou
On 10 March 1995, Antonis Andreas Kalogirou, 23, was sentenced to one year's imprisonment for refusing to perform military service. He has already served a four-month sentence in 1991 on the same charge. He is one of 15 conscientious objectors currently in prison in Cyprus for refusal to perform compulsory military service. As far as AI is aware, all are Jehovah's Witnesses.
