2005 UN Commission on Human Rights: The UN’s chief guardian of human rights? Executive Summary

This document summarizes Amnesty International’s (AI) main position paper for the 61st session of the UN Commission on Human Rights (the Commission). AI makes a number of recommendations in respect of some of the issues on the Commission’s agenda, including in relation to reaffirming the absolute prohibition of torture, abolishing the death penalty, limiting the negative impact of counter-terrorism measures on human rights, ending violence against women, and controlling the impact on human rights of business corporations.
