Joint open letter to the President on the imminent resumption of executions
The World Coalition Against the Death Penalty and 52 other organizations have written to the President of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena to encourage him to do everything in his power to stop executions in Sri Lanka and consign the death penalty to the history books. The letter, which Amnesty International co-signed, follows the announcement by the President on 24 June that he had signed execution warrants of people convicted of drug-related offences, in violation of international law and standards.
