Milad ‘Assaf was released on bail on 25 September, pending trial.
He was reportedly tortured in custody at the Ministry of Defence Detention
Centre, by a method known as the Ballanco: his wrists were handcuffed behind
his back, and a rope was tied to the handcuffs and passed over a raised beam,
so that soldiers could pull on the rope and lift him off the ground.
Many thanks to all those who sent appeals. If possible please send a final
round of appeals, in English, Arabic, French or your own language:
- expressing concern at reports that Milad Assaf was tortured in custody, and
calling for an independent investigation into these allegations in accordance
with international standards.
