There have been no reports of further threats against members of the
non-governmental organization El Barzón in Nuevo León state, and no more appeals
by the Urgent Action Network are requested for the time being. The relevant
human rights organizations in Mexico have asked for their thanks to be passed
on to those who sent appeals on this case, and they have restated their belief
that international appeals remain effective on such cases.
No one has been brought to justice for the planting of the bomb in El Barzón's
office in early July 1996, or for earlier threats against members of the
organization. Amnesty International continues to campaign to end such impunity
in Mexico.
