TOGO:Joseph Kokou Koffigoh, Prime Minister of Togo
Amnesty International has learnt that Joseph Kokou Koffigoh, the Prime Minister
of Togo, was released on 3 December. He had been arrested earlier on 3 December
at his Prime Ministerial residence and was being held by members of the armed
Joseph Kokou Koffigoh's arrest followed several days' negotiations about the
political future of the country between himself and President Eyadema after
the armed seized power on 28 November 1991. Joseph Kokou Koffigoh has now
been asked to appoint a new government.
No further appeals are required on Joseph Kokou Koffigoh's behalf. However,
Amnesty International still remains concerned that human rights may be violated
during this time of unrest in Togo and will continue to monitor the situation.
