Burundi: Time for international action to end a cycle of mass murder
This report contains a detailed account of the killings which followed the attempted coup of October 1993. Violence erupted after the killing of President Ndadaye: killings of Tutsi by Hutu gangs and killings of Hutu by the mainly Tutsi security forces and Tutsi civilians are described here. The report also discusses responsibility for the coup attempt and reaction to it by the government and international organizations. An appeal to the international community to assist Burundi in ending the killings concludes the report.
