South Korea: Submission to the 42nd Session of the UPR Working Group, 26 January 2023

This submission was prepared for the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of the Republic of Korea (South Korea) on 26 January 2023. In it, Amnesty International evaluates the implementation of recommendations made to South Korea in its previous UPR, including in relation to anti-discrimination law, conscientious objectors, and decriminalization of abortion. With regard to the human rights situation on the ground, Amnesty International raises concerns about rights of LGBTI persons, women and girls, and refugees and asylum seekers. It also raises concerns about the death penalty, rights to freedom of peaceful assembly, association and expression and climate justice.
