Indonesia / East Timor: Continuing human rights violations

Index Number: ASA 21/010/1995

This document details recent violations by the security forces in East Timor. Since November 1994, there have been increased, sometimes violent, demonstrations against the occupation of East Timor. Some of the demonstrations have been pro-independence protests but others appear to have arisen out of ethnic tensions between East Timorese and Indonesian immigrants. Violations covered include arrests and trials and suspected extrajudicial executions. Appendices I-II give information about recent detentions and Appendix III gives information on the recommendations made by the UN Special Rapporteur on Summary or Arbitrary Executions in his report released in November 1994.
