This report is about human rights violations of concern to AI against members of the Tibetan minority in the People’s Republic of China during the last five years. It gives information about the legal context within which violations occur, at both national and international levels. Among the concerns reported are the imprisonment of people who have peacefully advocated autonomy for Tibet, such as political activists, Buddhist monks and nuns and human rights workers. Torture and ill treatment of detainees is reported; killings of peaceful demonstrators are also of concern to AI. Some of those mentioned in the report have been in prison for long periods, e.g. Tane Jigme Sangpo, a teacher; Yulo Dawa Tsering, a senior monk; Tamdin Sithar; and Lobsang Wangchuk, also a monk.
