In this Letter to the Government of Bangladesh, Amnesty International responds to the government’s call for feedback on the proposed “Data Protection Act, 2022”. The right to privacy is a critical human right guaranteed under Article 17 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Right, to which Bangladesh is a state party. In line with Bangladesh’s international human rights obligations, Amnesty International believes that the law requires significant amendments to some of the sections to bring it in line with international human rights guarantees.
