Bangladesh: Guarantee Access to Health Care and Fair Trial Rights to Detained Former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia

Amnesty International is deeply concerned about the health condition of detained former prime minister of Bangladesh, Begum Khaleda Zia, amid allegations that the authorities are denying her access to adequate health care. Khaleda Zia, who is now 74, has been detained since 08 February 2018 after receiving a five years prison sentence on embezzlement charges. Already suffering from poor health, her condition has deteriorated since her imprisonment that forced the authorities to transfer her to a public hospital on 01 April 2019. There are concerns that she is not being provided with adequate health care and her fair trial rights are not respected.
