This report sets out Amnesty International’s human rights agenda for the future protection of human rights in Afghanistan. It calls for child soldiers to be demobilized, restrictions on arms supplies, international protection for refugees, and a vigorous program of human rights institution-building. Chapter 2 presents a brief summary of human rights abuses since the late 1970s, whilst chapter 3 examines international aspects of the past and present conflicts – arms supplies that have fuelled abuses, and efforts to address the past conflict. Chapter 4 contains Amnesty International’s recommendations.
