This comic, created by Amnesty International’s partner organisations, the Western Shoshone Defense Project and the Noowuh Knowledge Center, tells the history of the Newe (Western Shoshone) people of the Great Basin, from their origins to the present day. Through illustration and storytelling, it traces the enduring relationship between the Newe and their ancestral lands, while highlighting the ongoing challenges they face, including continued extractive activities on their territories. This resource accompanies Amnesty International’s new research on lithium extraction in Nevada and centres Indigenous perspectives on land, rights and resistance.
