USA: Appealing for justice: Supreme Court hears arguments against the detention of Yaser Esam Hamdi and José Padilla

On 28 April 2004 the US Supreme Court heard oral arguments in two key cases – Yaser Esam Hamdi and Jose Padilla – challenging the indefinite, extrajudicial military detention of so-called “enemy combatants” in the USA. Amnesty International considers that the detention of these men violates international law.
