USA: Clemency denied, Tennessee execution proceeds

Wayne Nichols, a 64-year-old man, was executed in Tennessee on 11 December 2025. In 1990, he pled guilty to the rape and murder of a 21-year-old woman in Chattanooga in 1988. He had been on death row for 35 years. Multiple jurors and two former prosecutors supported clemency. Experts pointed to Wayne Nichols’ acceptance of responsibility, model conduct in prison and personal rehabilitation. The Governor denied clemency.
