According to a report in the official Peruvian newspaper El Peruano, the Supreme Council of Military Justice opened pre-trial proceedings on 16 April against members of the army, in connection with the alleged abduction and extrajudicial execution of lecturer Hugo Munoz Sanchez and nine students from the Enrique Guzman y Valle University (“La Cantuta”). On 18 April the daily newspaper Diario Uno published in full a document, allegedly written by members of the military organization Leon Dormido, giving a full account of the military operation. On 20 April General Hermoza denounced the allegations before the congressional Special Commission of Inquiry set up to investigate the incident. There are fears the military tribunal may attempt to protect the perpetrators.
