One of the central aspects of the security strategy proposed by the new president Andrés Manuel López Obrador is the creation of a National Guard made up of between 50,000 and 60,000 members of the Military Police, the Naval Police, and the Federal Police, in addition to members of the General Staff and “troops”. In the proposal it is clear that it would pursue a strategy very similar to that of previous governments, and that in reality the National Guard poses a threat to the security and human rights of people living in Mexico.
