Mexico: Caught Between Bullets and Neglect: Lack of Protection for Defenders of the Territory in the Tarahumara Sierra
This document addresses the Mexican State's failure to effectively protect the defenders of the land, territory and environment in the Sierra Tarahumara, specifically the members of the Rarámuri Coloradas de la Virgen indigenous community. Amnesty International documented the case of Rarámuri defender Julián Carrillo who was killed in October 2018 despite having protection measures from the Mechanism for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders and Journalists.
