This document reports developments in criminal investigations of policemen involved in human rights violations against street children in Guatemala. Four Guatemalan police officers have been sentenced to prison terms of between 10 and 15 years in connection with the death of 13-year-old Nahaman Carmona Lopez. Three arrest warrants were issued for two policemen and one civilian on 4 April 1991 in connection with the killing of 17-year-old Anstraum Villagran Morales. In the third known conviction of government agents for human rights related crimes in recent years, two ex-policemen were found guilty of culpable homicide and cover-up respectively in the case of the killing of 13-year-old Marvin de la Cruz Melgar; however, it is not known if these convictions will stand.
