El Salvador: Further information on: death threats / fear for safety

Adrian Esquino Lisco and his family, Maximiliano Bran Garcia, Antonio Armando Perez Arias, Rafael Arturo Perez Arias, relatives of Margarito Esquino, relatives of Maria Coralia Santos Mendez (f); new name: Mario Cruz Crespin Esquino: On 27 May 1996, 11 armed men tried to ambush Mario Cruz Crespin Esquino, son of Adrian Esquino Lisco, near his home community of San Ramon. He was warned by some neighbours and was able to escape the attack. Reports indicate that at least two witnesses recognized the armed men as belonging to the paramilitary group “Jaguar Battalion”. Mario Crespin Esquino has taken refuge in the offices of the Salvadorean National Indigenous Association (ANIS).
