Ecuador: Amicus Curiae: Case of the Kichwa People of Sarayaku vs. Ecuador: Submitted before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights

In this case the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (the Commission) has brought proceedings based on actions and omissions that were detrimental to the Kichwa People of Sarayaku and its members (the victims) by having allowed a private oil company to operate within their ancestral territory without consulting with them beforehand. This has left the victims unable to practice their traditional means of subsistence within their territory and limited their freedom of movement within that territory.
