Brazil: Submission to the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

This submission focusses on Brazil’s failure to address racial and structural discrimination, the situation of economic and social rights of the Afro-Descendant population, and the restrictive environment for Afro-Brazilians to exercise their civil and political rights, as well as through political participation. It further expresses the organization’s concerns regarding the criminal justice system, unlawful killings, extrajudicial executions, and the excessive use of force by law enforcement officials through a lens of institutional racism. Lastly, it also raises concerns about the human rights situation of structurally discriminated groups, among them the situation of Black, Indigenous, and Quilombola women.
